Tree Surveys & Reports
Know exactly where you stand with your trees
If you’re planning an extension, buying a house with big trees, or worried that a tree might be unsafe, a professional survey gives you the facts. Councils across Surrey often require a BS5837 tree survey before they’ll validate a planning application where trees are nearby.
Our reports are written in plain English with clear recommendations, tree plans and photographs. They’re prepared by experienced arboriculturists and accepted by local planning authorities, mortgage lenders and insurers.

What is a BS5837 tree survey?
It’s a survey carried out to British Standard BS5837 that records trees on or near a development site, categorises their quality and sets out how they should be protected during construction. Most Surrey councils ask for one when trees could be affected by building work.
How long does a tree survey take?
The site visit is usually quick — often under a few hours for a domestic property. The written report typically follows within one to two weeks, depending on the type of survey.
Do I need a tree survey to buy a house?
Sometimes. Mortgage lenders may ask for a tree report if large trees are close to the property, particularly on clay soils where subsidence is a concern.
Can you do the tree work recommended in the report?
Yes. Once you have your report, we can quote for any recommended pruning or removal and handle TPO applications if needed.
