Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about tree surgery in Surrey — from costs and permissions to timing and safety.

Costs & quotes

It depends on the size and type of tree, how easy it is to access, the work required and how much waste needs removing. We offer free site visits across Surrey and provide fixed written quotes so you know the exact cost upfront.

Yes. Site visits and quotes are always free and there’s no obligation to go ahead.

For smaller jobs such as stump grinding or hedge trimming, photos are often enough for an accurate quote. For larger trees, we’ll usually visit to assess access and condition.

Yes — clearing up and removing all branches, logs and chippings is included unless you’d like to keep the wood.

Permissions & protected trees

Only if the tree has a Tree Preservation Order or is in a conservation area. We check this for every job and handle any applications or notices for you.

A TPO is a legal order made by a local council to protect specific trees. Cutting, pruning or removing a protected tree without consent can lead to substantial fines.

TPO applications usually take up to eight weeks. In conservation areas, six weeks’ notice must be given before work starts.

You can generally cut back branches to your boundary line, as long as the tree isn’t protected and you don’t damage it. It’s good practice to speak to your neighbour first, and we can do the work for you.

Timing & the work itself

Most work can be done year-round. Late autumn and winter are ideal for many species and avoid the bird nesting season, but we work all year and check carefully for nests between March and August.

Most domestic jobs are completed in a single day. We’ll give you a realistic timescale with your quote.

Not necessarily, as long as we have access to the trees. We’ll agree the arrangements with you beforehand.

We take great care to protect your property, using ground protection boards and lowering branches on ropes where needed.

Safety, insurance & emergencies

Yes. All work is carried out by fully insured tree surgeons, and insurance certificates are available on request.

Yes. We respond across Surrey to fallen, split and storm-damaged trees. Call 07940 726 552 for urgent help.

Signs like fungi at the base, large dead branches, cracks in the trunk or a sudden lean can indicate a problem. We can inspect the tree and advise on whether it needs work.
