Hedge Cutting & Reduction
From tidy trims to serious reductions
A well-kept hedge frames a home beautifully, gives privacy and shelters wildlife. Left alone for a few seasons, though, conifers, laurel and privet can easily double in size, block light and cause disputes with neighbours.
We trim hedges of every height and length, using platforms and long-reach equipment for tall hedges. For hedges that have really got away, we carry out height and width reductions in stages so they recover well and green up again.
What’s included
- Routine trimming and shaping
- Height reduction of tall conifer and leylandii hedges
- Width reduction and side cutting
- Formal topiary and box hedging

FAQ
Hedge Cutting & Reduction FAQs

How often should my hedge be cut?
Most garden hedges benefit from one or two cuts a year. Fast-growing conifers and privet may need two or three cuts to stay neat.
Can you reduce a very tall leylandii hedge?
Yes. We can reduce height significantly, but leylandii won’t regrow from bare brown wood, so we take care to leave enough green growth on the sides.
Can I cut my hedge during bird nesting season?
It’s an offence to disturb an active nest, so we always check carefully before cutting between March and August. Light trims can often go ahead once we’ve confirmed there are no nests.
Do you take the hedge cuttings away?
Yes — collection and disposal of all cuttings is included in our quotes.
